What to Expect on the Day of Lip Fillers
When you come into our boutique office on the day of your Lip Filler treatment, you will begin by having a topical anesthetic applied to your lips to ease any discomfort or pain you may feel. After about 15 – 30 minutes, your lips should be numb and the injections can begin.
Using a very thin needle, the technician will inject the lip filler into the targeted parts of your lips. You may experience a pinching sensation which may cause your eyes to water, but it should be a painless procedure.
The entire procedure can take as little as 30 minutes or as long as two hours.
Lip Fillers Recovery
What is the downtime with this treatment?
Once your procedure is complete, the technician will gently massage your lips to help absorb the filler. They may also apply ice on your lips to minimize any swelling or bruising.
You could be monitored for about 15 minutes to ensure you’re not experiencing any side effects, such as dizziness, nausea, or substantial bleeding. When your technician releases you, you will be able to return home, and since the numbing cream won’t make you tired or groggy, you can drive yourself if you choose to.
Our patient coordinator will schedule a follow-up appointment for about two weeks after your procedure to monitor your lips. Pictures may be taken for your medical record, as well as allowing you to see the before and after the appearance of your lips.
During the first 24 – 48 hours, your lips may be swollen, sensitive, and bruised, however, these reactions can last up to a week. We suggest following these tips to ensure the best results while your lips heal:
Apply an ice pack for up to 10 minutes to reduce inflammation, pain, and swelling
Avoid exercising for at least 24 hours
Avoid wearing lipstick, lip balm, or any other product on your lips for at least 24 hours
Be careful when brushing your teeth
Drink plenty of fluids
Refrain from touching or pursing your lips, including kissing or sipping from a straw.

Our technicians use a topical numbing cream to reduce any discomfort you may feel during the procedure, so there should be no pain whatsoever. Some patients might feel a slight pinching sensation even with the cream, but it should be tolerable even for those with lower pain tolerance.
You will only need 1 appointment for your lip fillers and you will be able to enjoy those results for 9 months to a full year. If you wish to maintain your appearance, you will need to schedule a maintenance appointment around this time as your body will naturally break down the filler.
Immediately! You should be able to see results from your treatment as soon as you leave our office. There may be some slight swelling and/or bruising the next day or so, but after about a week you will be able to enjoy the full effects of your treatment.
